Makoa Freitas is BYU–Hawaii’s director & controller of finance, overseeing financial accounting, tax filings, payroll, investments, capital project accounting, and procurement. He started at BYU–Hawaii in 2012 and has held various roles, including assistant controller and management control auditor at the Polynesian Cultural Center.

Freitas holds an MBA and a master’s in accounting from Indiana University and is a certified public accountant. He previously worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and played as an NFL offensive lineman for the Indianapolis Colts.
