As part of a study to improve firefighting techniques for electric vehicles, two electric cars were subjected to a fire test on June 27. During the tests, the batteries of these cars were intentionally triggered into a so-called thermal runaway. In this video, the individuals involved explain the importance of the study and how it was conducted.
The fire test is an initiative by the NIPV and was made possible through collaboration with Brandweer Nederland, Schiphol Fire Brigade, Joint Fire Brigade Rotterdam, Tata Steel Industrial Fire Brigade, the Utrecht Safety Region, and the Haaglanden Safety Region. Additionally, contributions to the study were provided by the German working group VDA/VDIK 'Rescuing of people,' Cobra Coldcut Systems, and the car supplier.
