Mahindra possesses a subsidiary known as Mahindra Defence. Recently, Mahindra Defence successfully supplied the Indian Army with the Armado ALSV. This groundbreaking vehicle is the first of its kind to be conceived, developed, and manufactured within India. In addition to armored vehicles, Mahindra Defence also provides the Indian Military with Scorpio Classic vehicles. The Indian Military has commissioned Mahindra to deliver, 1,470 units of the Scorpio Classic military vehicles, and the company has initiated the delivery process in a phased manner. Recently a Rushlane reader spotted, a fresh fleet of Mahindra Scorpio military vehicles.

These military vehicles differ significantly from the civilian Scorpio Classic vehicles, and incorporate a range of modifications. Starting with the aesthetics, they boast a distinctive green color scheme that is instantly associated with the Indian Army, and not available in the civilian version. Furthermore, they come equipped with additional features, such as a 4 wheel drive transfer case, which enhances performance in challenging terrains. The tail lights lack the upper LED component, which reduces unnecessary costs. Additionally, there is a rear hook for towing artillery or other equipment, which is not retractable.

All these features were also present in the previous fleet of vehicles. However, the previous units were of lower trim models, whereas the new ones belong to the top-spec S11 trim. Moreover, the new vehicles feature blackout lights in the front, as well as small and sturdy secondary brake and reverse lights. These types of lights offer stealth during military operations or missions. The front bumpers and side cladding now match the body color, which was not the case with the previous fleet.

Manufacturers design military vehicles for specific purposes, incorporating reinforced components that are more robust, and heavy-duty compared to their civilian counterparts. The suspensions are sturdier, and the interiors boast various additions, such as a built-in PA speaker with a microphone system, extra reading lights for maps, additional grab handles, and provisions for air-lifting in certain situations, among others. This Scorpio Classic military vehicle is equipped with a 2.2 Litre diesel motor, which may have a different engine tune.
