To Day One

I swore I’d buried that bottle deep,
Locked it down where the shadows sleep,
But one bad night and a quiet excuse
Lit a spark on a hidden fuse.
The fall came fast, no warning sign,
Just a taste turned into one more time.
Morning light hit harder than shame,
Saw my own face whisper my name.
It’s a long way down from steady ground,
Harder still to turn around,
The devil don’t shout — he softly calls,
And pride goes first before the fall.
But drowning in sorrow won’t make me strong,
I ain’t cured — I just stay gone too long.
So I wiped my mouth, and let the past be done…
And walk back steady to day one.
The mirror don’t lie, it just stands still,
Shows every crack in iron will,
That old voice says, “You blew it now,”
“Why stand up if you don’t know how?”
But somewhere deeper than regret,
A stubborn heartbeat won’t quit yet.
The slip don’t erase the miles I've made,
It just reminds me how this game's played.
I've tasted both chains and being free,
Know which side I want to be.
It’s a hard road back from broken ground,
Harder still to turn it down,
The devil still whispers, low and slow,
But I know that voice — he won’t let go.
I won’t wear shame like a loaded gun,
Won’t trade tomorrow for what I've done.
I ain’t cured — and here's the proof…
But I'm stronger when I face the truth.
So I square my shoulders in the rising sun…
And start again at day one.
