In today’s video, I’m sharing a comforting and flavorful Mooli (Radish) Sambar that goes perfectly with rice, idli, or dosa. This recipe is very easy to make and perfect for everyday cooking. Let’s get started! 🌿
Ingredients:
Tuvar dal – ½ cup (washed)
Mooli (radish) – 1 medium, chopped
Onion – 1 medium, chopped
Turmeric powder – ½ tbsp
Hing (asafoetida) – a small pinch
Tamarind – small lemon-sized (soaked in water)
Rock salt – 1 tbsp (or to taste)
Coriander powder – 1 tsp
Red chilli powder – 1 tsp (adjust to taste)
Sambar powder – 2 tbsp (adjust to taste)
Powdered coconut – 2 tbsp
Fresh coriander leaves – for garnish
For tempering:
Oil – 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Jeera (cumin seeds) – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – few
Dry red chillies – 2
Green chillies – 1–2 (slit)
Method / Steps:
Take a pressure cooker, add washed tuvar dal, turmeric powder, hing, and water.
Pressure cook for 2–3 whistles until the dal is soft.
Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds, jeera, and curry leaves.
Add chopped onions and sauté until slightly soft.
Add dry red chillies and green chillies.
Add chopped mooli and fry for 2–4 minutes until the raw smell disappears.
Add rock salt, coriander powder, and red chilli powder. Mix well.
Add a little water so the masala coats the mooli properly and cook well.
Add the cooked dal and mix.
Add tamarind water and some more water if needed. Let it boil for 1–2 minutes.
Add sambar powder and cook on medium flame for 5–10 minutes.
Finally, add powdered coconut and fresh coriander leaves. Mix well.
Mooli Sambar is ready to serve!
Serve hot with rice, idli, or dosa.
