I spoke with David Baxter, Legion M VP of Development about the the story of Robert Smalls a new graphic novel and film they are developing telling the American History of the swashbuckling escaped slave who saved fellow enslaved sailors, their families and took the ship to the North during the Civil War. All were inspired by a meme that Legion M contributors wanted to tell the story of that was lost to history.
Robert Smalls was a renaissance man who went on to be elected to Congress, create the public school system, have a railroad and more. His family still lives on and are working the the Legion M team on sharing his story.
