Navigating Section 23: Challenges and Opportunities for Minority Language Educational Rights in English-Speaking Quebec
Within Canada's constitutional fabric, the narrative of French and English minority rights tells a story of compromise, cultural preservation, and evolving identities. Among these is the experience of English-speaking Quebec, a community striving to safeguard its language and culture within a French-speaking province. This is supported by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms' minority language educational rights. In 2023, I presented a paper at QUESCREN's Education and Vitality Forum titled *"English-speaking Quebec and Minority Language Educational Rights: A Lost Opportunity?" The paper examines the unique journey of this minority community, exploring the complexities and challenges of fully embracing these rights.
