Chincoteague Volunteer Fireman's 100th Anniversary of the Pony Swim Beach Walk

Описание: On this Monday thousands and thousands (estimated at 15,000) gathered along the Assateague Island National Seashore to watch the Northern herd ponies go from the north corral down the beach along the water to Beach Road and the southern corral. We arrived on line at 330am and waited for the gate to open at 4am. Once parked we walked down and set up camp to wait. It went from complete darkness and a sky full of stars, to daybreak, to sunrise, to ponies in the mist. This year because of the size of the crowd we waited a little longer to get everyone parked and off of Beach Road. As the ponies got closer a baby broke free and gave the Saltwater Cowboys a run. The rest of the herd stopped again right in front of us and you can see what happens when wild ponies still want to move. This wasn't my first Beach walk, but it was the most exciting. Once past us, we headed back to the golf cart and up Beach Rd. Driving past the corral you could see the pony lovers gathered around to see their favorite pony.
