In this video, Peter Liljedahl shares a lesson co-designed with an elementary teacher to introduce dividing decimals by whole numbers. Instead of jumping straight to long division, students first used what they already knew to modify the problem into one they felt confident solving. Through a carefully sequenced set of tasks, students chose their own strategies to solve the decimal division problems. The result was high engagement, deeper understanding, and every group successfully advancing to more complex problems.
