In February, Trump fired the chairman and 13 trustees of the Kennedy Center board, crowning himself as chair. He also appointed foreign policy adviser Richard Grenell (who called last night’s audience “intolerant”) as interim leader, and stacked the board with new members, including Usha Vance.

“So we took over the Kennedy Center,” Trump declared at the time. “We didn’t like what they were showing and various other things. We’re going to make sure that it’s good and it’s not going to be woke. There’s no more woke in this country.”
