Feels So Good, A Tribute to Chuck Mangione (Flugelhorn Cover)

Описание: Accompaniment: 5:45 If you grew up near Rochester, New York like I did, you were lucky to know about Chuck Mangione, even before he became a "star". He grew up here, attended the Eastman School of Music, and went on to make flugelhorn a household word. My first Chuck Mangione concert was in a local high school gymnasium. When "Feels So Good" came out in 1977, it hit No.4 on the national charts. He probably never played another gymnasium after that.

I always admired Mangione for his ability in the upper register on flugelhorn. He made it look so easy. He also occasionally "cracked" a note or two, which made me love him even more. Turns out, he was human too, and high notes on flugelhorn always seem to be a whisper away from cracking...

I should also explain, that you won't find a recording of Chuck Mangione that is exactly like my cover. He released more than one version of "Feeling So Good":
a short radio version:
   • Feels So Good  
and a longer version that has a beautiful rubato introduction:
   • Feels So Good  

I used the shorter "radio" version, but added an improv done by Chuck at the end of the longer version. I felt like it made the cover a little more interesting.

Over the last three months, I've played more on my flugelhorn than ever in my life. I've always dreaded anything above high G on the staff. My work paid off. For the first time ever, I felt comfortable playing a Chuck Mangione piece. I hope you like it. It was a labour of love.
