The U.S. government has officially shut down for the first time since Donald Trump’s first presidency.
This shutdown follows failed attempts in the Senate on Tuesday to pass multiple votes aimed at keeping the government funded past midnight, with both Republicans and Democrats blaming each other for the deadlock.
Lawmakers are set to return to Capitol Hill today for more potential votes. In the meantime, thousands of federal workers are expected to go without pay, as President Trump threatens additional layoffs.
