Hello, beautiful people!
I’m back with yet another exciting video, and this time, I’m exploring the breathtaking Nohkalikai Falls—India’s tallest plunge waterfall, located in Meghalaya. With its stunning height of 340 meters, this waterfall is famous for its turquoise blue pool and the mythical story behind its name.
This trek is a perfect blend of mesmerizing landscapes, thrilling trails, cascading waterfalls, unique river bed formations, blue lagoons, and natural swimming pools.
The Journey:
After trekking for about 15-20 minutes, we reached a point where the trail splits into two. One path leads to the Nohkalikai Falls viewpoint, while the other takes you deep into the lush green forests, where a magnificent 3-tier waterfall awaits. We chose the second path, leading us to the stunning Tlai Falls (also known as Taki Falls).
Here, the Umshiang River, which flows beneath the Double Decker Root Bridge, cascades down to form this beautiful fall. The water from Tlai Falls eventually merges with Nohkalikai Falls, making this trek even more fascinating. The riverbed here is truly unique, featuring sinkholes, caves, and smooth, rounded stones, shaped over time by natural erosion.
One of the highlights of this trek is the Blue Lagoon, a natural pool where you can take a refreshing dip—but only if you know how to swim, as the depth can be deceptive. The crystal-clear blue color of the water is due to limestone deposits and sunlight reflection, making it a picture-perfect location.
Interestingly, this trek is open for only 4-5 months a year because the rest of the time, it remains flooded with water, making it inaccessible. The serene beauty of this place also makes it a popular wedding shoot destination, and we were lucky to meet a couple capturing their pre-wedding moments here!
The Legend of Nohkalikai Falls:
This waterfall is named after Ka Likai, a woman from a nearby village whose tragic story is now part of Meghalaya’s folklore. The full story is written on a board along the Nohkalikai trek, adding a mysterious and emotional touch to this already fascinating journey.
So, join me in this adventure as I take you through the hidden gems of Meghalaya! If you enjoy the video, don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more exciting travel content. Let me know in the comments—would you love to visit this stunning place?
