Join us as we ride the 10-mile bike trail from Johnson City to Elizabethton, Tennessee!
I have experienced the Tweetsie Trail from both the Johnson City and Elizabethton starting points.
I encourage anyone bringing kids or pets to start from the Johnson City side of the trail, as it offers more delightful views and fewer road crossings.
All in all, less stressful, especially if you're only riding a few miles out and back.
PARKING: Parking is free, but definitely limited right at the start of both locations.
HOW CLEAN: The trail is full of shattered glass. I highly recommend having booties for your dogs so they don't get cut up. I would also have a bike kit just in case your tire pops.
BATHROOM: There are two porta-potties on the trail. The first one was around the 4-mile marker, and the second one is located at the Elizabethton Trail Parking Lot.
LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY: The Trail is decently easy, other than some spots, the gravel is thick, which slows your bike down, and the obvious mountain inclines help you break a sweat.
Bike, walk, run, or even one wheel on this trail. #onewheel
Places To Eat: The #Elizabethton area has a cute downtown along the bike trail with all sorts of food and local breweries:
Appalachian Sun Brewery LLC
Dino’s Restaurant
Covered Bridge Creamery of Tennessee
#JohnsonCity also has a downtown, but it is off the trail.
Mulligan's Irish Pub
Southern Craft BBQ
Freiberg's German Restaurant
and so many more.
Or pack a picnic and sit at the quarry along the way to enjoy a homemade snack under the pavilion!
Places to stay:
The Trout House
Carnegie Hotel
Black Bear Resort - Hampton, TN
