Where more than one mode of transport is involved, it is no longer considered a road, rail, or inland waterway transport document, but a multimodal transport document.

You need to be careful when understanding UCP 600 Article 24, because the criteria and examination parameters differ depending on the mode of transport—road, rail, or inland waterway.

For example, sub-article 24 (a)(i) states that a road, rail, or inland transport document must appear to indicate the name of the carrier. It further says, if the rail transport document does not identify the carrier, any signature or stamp of the railway company will be accepted as evidence that the document was signed by the carrier.
