This is a video about my bicycle journey across from Pari Bangla to Chilas along the Silk Road and the roaring Indus River, through one of the most scenic and thrilling routes in northern Pakistan.
It begins with a quiet night at the Fairy Bangla check post, a memory forever engraved in my mind. This was the point where my next stage on the Silk Road began. The route winds from Sazli Bend towards the Alamgarh Bridge, a place where history, mountains, and human endurance meet.
Once, this road was narrow, rough, and filled with deadly turns. Every descent tested nerves; every climb challenged strength. But now, the road has been rebuilt wider, safer, yet still carrying the wild beauty and soul of the old Silk Road.
Along the way, the Indus River flows beside you like a living force, sometimes calm and silent, sometimes crashing violently against the cliffs far below. There are moments when the road and the river seem to race each other, and moments when the depths below make your soul tremble.
The journey passes through Pratab (Bunji) Bridge, named after Maharaja Pratap Singh of Kashmir. This historic bridge connects Gilgit, Bunji, Astore, and Kashmir, and stands as a reminder of the region’s rich past.
Further ahead lies one of the most mesmerizing sights in the world, the Nanga Parbat Viewpoint. Towering at 26,660 feet, Nanga Parbat is not just the ninth highest mountain in the world, but also one of the most feared and revered. Legends say this mountain is home to fairies and spirits, and when the first rays of sunlight hit its peak, the “fairy bread” begins to bak, a myth that gives this mountain its magical aura.
From this point, travelers choose between two directions Deosai Plains or Gilgit each one promising an unforgettable adventure. Soon after, you reach the Raikot Bridge, the gateway to the legendary Fairy Meadows, also called “Joot” by locals. German mountaineers once called it “Heaven on Earth.”
As darkness falls, I meet local youths who offer me a lift for the last few kilometers small acts of kindness that stay with you forever. This is a journey where silence speaks louder than words, where nature humbles you, and where every turn brings a new emotion.
