On March 7, 2025 Arlene sat down at her home at the Homelake Veterans Home in Monte Vista, Colorado and told of her experiences in the Army. Arlene, born on a farm outside of Dodge, North Dakota, enlisted in the Women's Army Corps (WACs) and was an early trailblazer not to be reckoned with! She was soon sent overseas to work at a top-secret facility in France. After this enlistment ended, she got out and then once again re-enlisted. Her assignments included being a recruiter, a counselor at Fort Sill, and as an investigative lead in Hawaii during this stint. She also met and married her husband Jim during this time. After her service, she would eventually start up a successful copy center/shipping business. Arlene and Jim were married for 45 years before his passing. They have a son and two granddaughters.
