The history of the Fantastic Four will be retold a la X-Men: Grand Design in a new two-issue series by writer/artist Tom Scioli. First reported by ComicBook, Fantastic Four: Grand Design will see outspoken Jack Kirby fan, Tom Scioli, take on the family's entire mythos and boil it down into one singular narrative.
"Fantastic Four is like the Magna Carta of Marvel, this founding document, so being allowed to get my hands on it is thrilling," said Scioli. They’ve given me a tremendous amount of creative freedom to just go for it."
IDW Publishing suffered a decline in sales and an increase in losses vs. the year-ago period in its fiscal Q2 ended April 30, according to the company’s announcement, filings, and conference call. Reasons cited included declines in direct market and game sales, partially offset by a decline in book market returns and increases in specialty and digital sales.
Operating losses from the Publishing division were $1.63 million, an earnings decline from a $1.39 million loss in the year-ago period.
After months of speculation, it looks like fans' theories are confirmed, and a member of the Superman family is headed to the 31st Century to join up with the Legion of Super-Heroes. As more or less everyone has guessed since Bendis brought Jonathan Kent (the son of Clark and Lois Lane) back from his mystery in space, aged up about a decade, the endgame was apparently to get the older Jonathan to be a part of the Legion of Super-Heroes.
A new teaser for Joshua Williamson and David Marquez's Batman/Superman #1 demands to know which DC Universe heroes have been infected. The Year of the Villain teaser from Nick Bradshaw, Cully Hamner and Hi-Fi includes dozens of recognizable DC heroes, such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Martian Manhunter and more.
DC's Year Of The Villain #1 kicked off with a 32-page one-shot, which is available digitally for free. It leads into to some of the biggest story arcs that make up Year of the Villain, with stories by Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev.
Speaking to Empire as part of a new cover story, director and co-writer Todd Phillips discussed the comic book inspirations behind his (and Joaquin Phoenix’s) take on the clown prince of crime...or rather, the lack thereof.
"We didn’t follow anything from the comic-books, which people are gonna be mad about. We just wrote our own version of where a guy like Joker might come from. That’s what was interesting to me. We’re not even doing Joker, but the story of becoming Joker. It’s about this man."
