Translation techniques & Strategies that could make your translation easier - Translation Techniques
In this detailed video, we will discuss 10 important translation methods/techniques. These techniques are implied according to the nature of the source and target language, and the existing norms and values of both languages are taken into consideration.
In the borrowing technique, words that do not exist in the target language are transferred without any changes at all. However, in the loan translation, we do the literal translation of words that do not exist in the target language.
Then we have the literal translation which is also known as bound translation in which the meaning of the words are conveyed without looking at them in the syntax, however separate meanings of the words are considered enough for the translation. This creates chaos and errors.
In transposition, we change the word family of words while translating them into the target language. It happens because parts of speech do not work the same way in every language.
Modulation is a process or technique of translation in which perspective has been adjusted to convey the actual message. It translates the text in a way that conforms to the natural patterns of the language.
When a word or phrase means the same thing in both languages, is known as equivalence. It happens rarely if found is good luck for the translator.
Every language has got its own unique culture, values, and customs. When culture adaptation is carried out during the translation is called adaptation. It is the form of free translation.
This technique of compensation in translation studies compensates for being unable to translate a shade of meaning or phrase in one specific place by expressing the information at another point in the document.
Sometimes we remove unnecessary or ambiguous words during translation and it is called reduction, and at times we add extra words to keep the meaning and sense of text intact, and it is known as expansion.
