At the end of our 50 week course, our Competitive students sit a refereeing exam based on footage from recent FIE tournaments and designed to capture the interpretation of the rules of sabre at elite level. This is our latest exam. Here are the rules:
1. Watch in one sitting, recording your answers immediately after each clip. No replays.
2. The correct answer is the call made by the bout referee. Unless you are the bout referee, please do not bother commenting to say that something is wrong.
3. We will publish the answers, along with our grading bands, in one week.
This thing is a bit of a beast. Nobody surveyed, including current FIE referees featured on this video, has managed a perfect score. Have fun!
We'll be posting a new one of these every 10 weeks.
