The Victorian orangery at the Grade-II-listed Mansion House in St Helens has been given a new lease of life, having been fully refurbished by its owners, charity Age UK Mid-Mersey.
The glazing system provided by Pilkington United Kingdom Limited has allowed the building to be returned to its former glory, recreating the look of a traditional glass house while also delivering 21st century benefits in terms of energy performance, climate control and self-cleaning properties.
In the roof, Pilkington Activ Sunshade™ was used due to its solar control and self-cleaning properties, while Pilkington Suncool™ high-performance coated glass was used in the walls, again for its excellent solar control properties.
In this video, Phil Savage, commercial contracts sales manager at Pilkington, talks through the glass and glazing system used in the project, and how this has transformed the once run-down structure into a lucrative asset for the charity, which it hires out as a wedding and conference venue.
