This is a stop-action comparison between Toyo R888R tires and General Tire G-MAX AS-05 UHP All-season tires, on Watkins Glen, during a two-day track day.
A screen capture comparison in 5 second increments, starting the instant the start-finish line is reached in the field of view.
OK, Not really a fair comparison. R888Rs are ~7 seconds faster. Better all around in the dry.
However, June 18, 2019 started with rain, and the R888R would have been dangerous/useless. Hence the swap to my Fall-Winter-Spring street tires.
Overall the General AS-05 were pretty decent in the rain. With very good grip in a straight line. But very light/vague cornering. Especially exciting cresting turn 3 in the Esses.
In the dry they were surprisingly good. Time was lost due to a lower cornering grip. Tire block howl was very noticable in the slower corners. And straight line braking was very good, except a little bit of tread squirm causing the car to wiggle going int turn 1. Nothing dramatic, but present.
