Cisco designs routers to meet many customer needs, with a large variety of software features and hardware interfaces. One example is router models that include switch ports. That is, the router has a small number of normal router ports that can route packets, but these other switch ports act just like ports on a LAN switch. To make it all work, you configure the router using the same commands you would on a switch to configure layer 2 switch ports and layer 3 SVIs (VLAN interfaces). So, the details will seem familiar if you’re following the course in sequence.
