How is India affected because of the Iran, Israel, and the US war?
The answer is crude oil!
When crude goes up, inflation goes up, rates or yield go up, which is negative for the stock markets, but India is much better off. Let me explain!
First on inflation & rates,
Our WPI inflation is below 1%
Last year we cut 1.25%, and I don’t think rates will go up anytime soon.
So Inflation and rates are not a problem.
Let’s talk about Oil now,
In 2007-08, India imported 68B of oil, and the GDP was 1.16T. So the oil bill was 6% of GDP
In 2025-26, estimated imports are 120B and GDP is 4.2T. So the oil bill will be 3% of GDP
When in Feb - Mar 2022 crude went from 77 to 139, a 80% rise nifty only fell by ~5%
So oil also does not seem to be a problem.
The only problem I see is $ if $ strengthens, FIIs are not coming back soon. So keep a watch on the $
