A summer visit to the Gardens of Winston Churchill's Chartwell House (National Trust)

Описание: We return to Winston Churchill's Chartwell Estate for a more detailed look at the gardens in summer when the roses are in bloom. We avoid the house this time, save for a look at the patio access through Lady Churchill's Sitting Room.

Our walk starts straight after the ticket office and leads us down past the swimming pool and the Gavin Jones Waterfall to the Great Orfe pond and the entrance to Lady Churchill's Rose Garden. Passing by the Marlborough Pavilion into the terraced lawn with its fantastic views over the Weald of Kent, we make our way around the house.

We step inside to experience Clementine's Patio and then head along to the walled garden via the Croquet Lawn to the upper reaches of the Walled Garden to the Garden Cottage Cafe.

We then amble downwards through the Walled Garden, taking in the vegetable patches, the cut flower beds, taking in the celebratory Golden Rose Avenue, the dovecote, Marycot and the wall Sir Winston built himself.

A stroll back to the house via Winston Churchill's studio, with one final look at the upper gardens once the sun decided to break cover.
