In this video I show you how to use lifting straps as an attachment to your barbell to create safety squat bar handles.

This will allow you to use your regular bar as a safety squat bar.

Of course, this is a DIY version and it's not going to be exactly like a regular SSB.

It's just an option if you want to try it out.

Getting under the bar

When you get under the bar, squeeze your shoulder blades together so that you create a stable base for the bar to sit on.

Then pull the straps forward and down for more stability.

Always squat with safety pins or spotter arms just to be safe.

Now you're ready to squat!

So what's the point of using a safety squat bar?

One of the major benefits of the SSB is that you can squat even if you have shoulder injuries, decreased shoulder mobility, or a tight chest.

The SSB will also help to keep your spine more vertical. This decreases shear forces on the lower back and also allows for greater range of motion through the hips, knees, and ankles.
