A 3D rendering of the gas density in a simulation of a 1:1 merger of two Milky Way-like galaxies, both with a massive black hole at their centers. The movie covers a timeframe of ~400 Myrs. The simulation has been carried out including a prescription for the evolution of black hole spins due to gas accretion and mergers. The two white arrows mark the instantaneous direction of each black hole spin vector. The movie slows down to highlight the behaviour of the spins during the merger process of the two black holes.
