By far the toughest climb I've ever done.
Starting from the tranquil village of Curiglia near the Swiss borders of Lombardy, a fork can be taken either towards Monteviasco or towards Alpone. Monteviasco is basically the easy way out.
The path starts innocent enough, looks well paved, even cars go by, and then outta nowhere it goes straight up to 20%+. The path to the village of Sarona is less than 2km long but involves 4 rather long ramps of 30%+ with flat spots (and by flat i mean 10%+) to recover. This is probably by far the toughest (still) paved road i ever encountered and is an absolute amazing egosmasher. I absolutely love the climb to bits and keep coming back.
The village of Sarona itself has shitloads of stone cottages as can be seen in the footage, with some goats roaming freely and blocking the way (if unlucky). I decided to walk, rather than bike, on the extra cobbly surface, but only because I was knackered af. If you still got the energy, feel free to continue, it is doable.
After that the road gets deceptively slippery with loose rocks, near-invisible tyre traps, and most importantly 35%+ ramps (with a measured max of 45%). As you can see I had to take quite a few breaks either due to cramps, slipping or both ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
It's definitely a climb I will attempt to conquer again, hopefully without stopping (or at least one less than this time).
Повторяем попытку...
