welcome back to make me curious
This video tells us why we can see our breath in the cold.
Why do we see clouds of breath in winter?
This is the same reason why we see clouds of smoke from a hot pot at normal temperature.
But let’s break it down and explain it in a scientific way. When the temperature of a liquid rises, it starts to convert faster into the gas phase, and when the temperature falls, then the rate of evaporation is much lesser than at higher temperature, so by that, we can say that cold air holds fewer water vapors than hot air.
So when the air of high temperature moves suddenly to the cold region of the air, the temperature falls from the dew point causing the moisture particles to condense quickly to liquid and that is how a cloud appears, this same phenomenon occurs with moisture in our breath.
Inside your lungs where it's nice and warm, this isn't a problem. When you exhale and it's cold outside, though, the water vapor in your breath loses its energy quickly. Rather than continuing to move freely, the molecules begin to pack themselves closely together. As they do so, they slow down and begin to change into either liquid or solid forms of water.
And that is how we see our breath in winter
