Описание: DRI SEIZES 3.314 KGS OF GOLD AT VIZAG Based on specific intelligence, officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Vizag, intercepted two passengers travelling in Train No. 12514 Guwahati-Secunderabad Express from Guwahati to Secunderabad on 04.01.2019 at Visakhapatnam Railway Station. On examination, it was found that the passengers were carrying gold concealed inside packets of the cotton vest (banian) worn by them. These packets were specially made for the purpose of concealment of the contraband. The total weight of the smuggled gold was found to be 3314 grams. Inquiries have revealed that the gold was smuggled in to India from Myanmar and someone handed them over the smuggled gold for onward transfer to Secunderabad. The passengers admitted that the gold was smuggled into the country and they did not have any valid documents to prove the licit purchase/import of the said gold. A total of 3314 Grams of smuggled gold recovered from the passengers, valued at Rs. 1,08,69,920/- has been seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Two passengers and a mastermind involved in smuggling of the gold have been arrested yesterday. Further investigation is in progress.
