The premise of the TV show Three's Company (1976–1984) is that two single women, Janet Wood (Joyce DeWitt) and Chrissy Snow (Suzanne Somers), find themselves needing a third roommate to share their apartment in Santa Monica after their current roommate moves out. The women discover Jack Tripper (John Ritter), a culinary school student, passed out in their bathtub after crashing their roommate's going-away party. After tasting Jack's cooking, they decide to offer him the room in a platonic arrangement to help cover the rent. However, their landlord, Stanley Roper, is suspicious of the arrangement and thinks there will be trouble once Jack moves in.
