WELCOME!
Please see below for my Read-Along Talking Points:
NAME and INTRO FACTS:
The Schefflera Amate Soleil, also known as the Golden Umbrella Tree, Native to Australia, New Zealend, and the Pacific Islands, basically it is a tropical evergreen shrub known for its bright, glossy and beautiful leaves.
GROWTH RATE:
The Schefflera Amate Soleil will produce a new set of leaves about every 3 weeks, once the new growth starts to poke out, it only takes about 1 and half weeks for it to expand and grow to fit the plant.
This is the FIRST TIME this tree has produced two sprouts at the same time, as you can see here. It will be very interesting to see both of those branches expanding out together - I'll have to post an updated video when those two sprouts start to poke through with that true neon coloring.
LEAF PROPERTIES:
This plant has gotten increasing larger per year and these leaves at the bottom have been here for roughly 3.5 years, hence their darker coloring. Toward the top, the more adolescent the leaves the are brighter they are, so these guys here are going to be your younger sprouts.
WATERING:
I water this plant when it runs dry. I do not have a set schedule for watering i.e. every week or every 5 days. I let the plant get completely dry before giving it another round of watering. This means I do need to check it weekly at minimum.
I use a pretty traditional watering can, for now. It does take over a full gallon of water, it could probably take slightly more than that, however I do not want to OVER water this plant and it seems to be adapting very well to the amount I've been providing it.
PLATER POT:
The pot I currently have this is a very heavy ceramic, almost a concrete feel, to be able to house this guy. I like to have a plate or trough at the bottom of my plants to catch any remaining water, i fortunate enough to be able to find a really one ceramic one large enough to fit around this pot. For reference this pot is 12.5 inches in diameter and the landing plate it 16 inches.
STAY TUNED FOR THE SROUTS:
That's a wrap for the Shefflera Amate Soleil - I'll give an update here in a couple week when we get those two new additions on the top.
Thank you for watching!
