Chase to France with Hardhills Chasers Turns Out to Be a Huge Success
What an incredible chase it was! Near Thionville this past Sunday, July 20, we intercepted a bow echo with an embedded supercell. Right in front of us, over a wheat field, a wall cloud developed. This is the rotating part of a thunderstorm where, under the most 'favorable' combination of certain factors, a tornado can form. That didn’t happen, but the wall cloud was very impressive. Unfortunately, some damage was reported due to strong wind gusts. Along the way, we encountered many broken branches, fallen trees, and overturned objects. Locally, there was also quite a bit of hail with diameters ranging from 1 to 2 cm.
What an awesome chase it was!
