This is a moderate out and back 3.7 mile hike near Auburn CA. I've been putting this hike off due to the stories of frequent mountain lion sightings, bear sightings, and angry goats! I didn't see any and I didn't see tracks of those animals. it is $10 to park or a state parks pass works; this is in the Auburn state recreation area. if you want to skip Cardiac Hill and just hang out at the river, you can drive almost right down to it; when the gates are open. the hike is flat and mellow from the trail head to along the canal. once you start heading down its steep; bring good shoes! it feels less like a trail and more like hiking where water runs down the hill. along the way you get amazing views of the canyon and river.
