Описание: Here's a rare original special from WBKB (now WLS) Channel 7, The Sound of Ravinia, highlighting performances at the Ravinia music festival over the summer at Ravinia Park.

This show (taped and aired in black-and-white, before the station's full-blown conversion to color over the next season) features Nancy Wilson, Roberta Peters, Josef Krips, The Ramsey Lewis Trio, The Back Porch Majority, Seiji Ozawa, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The host is Norman Ross.

Norman opens the show by relating the festival's history and litany of acts who performed in the past, and the park, and a list of who appeared in this summer season is shown, before introducing The Back Porch Majority who perform "Where Will You Be?," "Second-Hand Man" and "This Train."

Norman mentions acts in the classical field who performed in the past, leading to an excerpt of "Deh vieni, non tardar (Aria No. 28)" from Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" performed by Roberta Peters with the Chicago Symphony conducted by Josef Krips; then back to Norman who brings up the jazz part of Ravinia's legacy, and The Ramsey Lewis Trio with "Ain't That Peculiar," "It Was A Very Good Year" and "Hang On Sloopy."

Norman introduces Nancy Wilson, who performs "Getting to Know You," "More," "I've Got Your Number" and "How Glad I Am," backed by a jazz combo outside in the park.

Norman describes the Chicago Symphony's history with Ravinia, before a performance by the Chicago Symphony led by guest conductor Seiji Ozawa of Tchaikovsky's "Capriccio Italien (Op. 45)."

Norman closes the program with wishes from WBKB and Commonwealth Edison that you, the viewer, appreciated these excerpts from this year's festival.
