CPI Report - July 14th CPI for the month of June dropped to 3.5% from last month’s 4.2%!

Jermaine was away on vacation for our last CPI report, but he’s back to break down the latest numbers.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics just released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for June 2026, and inflation slowed more than expected. Here is the breakdown of what happened to prices from May to June:

1) Overall Inflation: The Consumer Price Index (CPI) decreased 0.4% in June.

2) Annual Rate: Year-over-year (YoY) inflation came in at 3.5%, down from the 4.2% increase we saw from last month (May).

3) Energy: Obviously, this was the biggest driver of the monthly decline, with the energy index falling 5.7%. Gasoline prices saw a significant drop of 9.7%.

4) Groceries: Food prices were basically flat, increased slightly by 0.2% in June, the same rate as the previous month.

The Concern: Although this was a welcomed decline, this reprieve may be short-lived. Why? Because the U.S.-Iran Ceasefire is over. Since the beginning of July, bond yields have increased significantly. Gas prices have also increased around 10% due to geopolitics. Buckle up. If this keeps up, Interest rate hikes may be back on the table.
