Our self-image is perpetuated through years of reference experiences and the way we relate to the world. People respond to us not so much from our appearance but to how we are showing up (i.e our energy, how we feel, our beliefs about who we are, etc. The key to this is understanding that the way we define ourselves sets up an expecation of how people treat us and people reflect that back to us. The power is in changing our self image of who we are by dropping the labels and limiting beliefs that have held us back from being our authentic selves. The paradox is when this happens we will naturally not care what others think because we feel accepting and secure with how we define ourselves.
