The Swalm (German: Schwalm) is a small tributary of the Meuse. It rises south of Wegberg in the border region of Germany and the Dutch Central Limburg, then runs through the German municipality of Schwalmtal and flows into the Maas at Swalmen (municipality of Roermond), more precisely between Wieler and Rijkel at the Donderberg.

The river has a length of 45 kilometers, twelve of which are on Dutch territory. The catchment area measures 277 km², of which 26 km² is in the Netherlands. The fall is 72 meters, of which 12 in the Netherlands.

The Dutch part, and partly also the upper reaches of the Swalm, have retained or regained their natural, meandering course. The stream valley is part of the Maas-Swalm-Nette Nature Park.
