After a relaxed morning we checked out from Seahorse Motel in Cowes and drove the short way down to Pyramid Rock for some last birding on Phillip Island. The wind was strong and we hoped to see some seabirds, which we did. The distance was impressive, though, a scope would've been nice.
Most of the birds were Short-tailed Shearwaters, but one looked a bit different and via photo it was certified as a Sooty Shearwater.
Almost equally distant, but larger, were our first Black-faced Cormorants. There sure is room for improvement there, as well. Maybe Bruny Island will produce that in a day or two... We'll see.
We made one stop on our way north to Melbourne: Breaside Park Wetlands, where one might see Freckled Duck. We did not, though.
What we did see (with help from local birder...) was a family of Tawny Frogmouth.
Otherwise we only saw the usual, plus Australian Reed Warbler and a Swamp Harrier.
We arrived to Best Western Airport Hotel in Melbourne at 3:30 PM, checked in and packed our bags in preparation for our flight to Hobart tomorrow. Dinner at the hotel.
10:03 Oct 29 starts with our flight to Hobart, Tasmania plus all the Victoria statistics.
11:53 Lift-off! Tasmania-Bruny Island will be covered in the next part.
