‘Back to Barbados’ set for 2024

Interest is peaking in West Africa, especially among Liberians for a pilgrimage which will see descendants of Barbadian emigrants to Liberia return to the island.
An event geared toward this, the inaugural “Sankofa Back to Barbados Pilgrimage,” is set to take place from May 6-13, 2024.
Spearheading the pilgrimage is the Africa-Barbados Heritage Initiative - a foundation founded by retired ambassador Lorenzo Llewellyn Witherspoon.
He revealed on CBC TV8's Mornin' Barbados the idea was first proposed by Barbados' Prime Minister, Mia Amor Mottley.
The pilgrimage is expected to attract hundreds of West Africans.
Mr Witherspoon expects positive spin-offs from the Sankofa pilgrimage to Barbados.
