The Dolmen is a prehistoric portal tomb found on the Hacketstown road, east of carlow town. The surrounding area changes face with the seasons but maintains it's charm.
Popularly known as the Brownshill Dolmen.
The capstone of this tomb is believed to be the largest in Europe.
So as you can imagine, it attracts lots of visitors ( locals and tourists).
The capstone weighs about 103 tonnes.
It is estimated that it was constructed between 4900 and 5500 years ago.
Historians and antiquarians have maintained a huge interest on this site for centuries.
