In Germany, big public universities don’t really hold graduation ceremonies, regardless of whether you’re finishing your bachelor’s, master’s, or even your PhD 🎓
They’re simply not that interested in celebrating these occasions. You complete your courses, collect your degree from the office, and that’s it 📜
In general, Germans tend to be quite modest; they keep achievements and wealth low-key and prefer to approach things in a critical manner. I really appreciate this mindset, but I do think that graduation is something that should be celebrated. It signifies the end of all the struggles and the beginning of a new chapter in life.
Honestly, my graduation was somewhat disappointing. After years of hard work, the lack of celebration made it feel as though I hadn’t accomplished anything and there was nothing to celebrate.
