What do you do when your enemy hides behind walls on an island? 🌊
If you’re Alexander the Great, you build a road through the sea to reach them.
In 332 BCE, Alexander faced his greatest challenge yet — the fortified island city of Tyre. The city seemed untouchable, with massive walls rising straight out of the water. But Alexander refused to give up.
Instead, he ordered his men to build a massive causeway, stone by stone, across half a mile of open water — all while under constant attack. After seven months of brutal fighting, Alexander stormed the city, took Tyre, and permanently changed the map.
Even today, Tyre is no longer an island — it’s still connected to the mainland by the land bridge Alexander built more than 2,300 years ago.
