A jackdaw pair (Corvus monedula) works tirelessly to begin building their nest inside the nest box. The birds repeatedly bring sticks and nesting materials, carefully arranging them to create the foundation of their future nest. Jackdaws are cooperative cavity nesters, and both members of the pair often participate in gathering materials and constructing the nest structure. These early nest-building stages reveal the strong pair coordination typical of corvids during the breeding season.
What does this mean? (Quick science note)
Jackdaws usually build nests from sticks, twigs, grass, wool, and other soft materials inside cavities such as nest boxes, cliffs, or chimneys. The stick platform forms the base of the nest, which is later lined with softer materials to protect eggs and chicks.
This video is meant to document the lives of wild animals so that we can learn more for both educational & research purposes and serve as an aid for the species conservation effort. We do not set up/stage or intervene but only document the lives of wild animals.
