ROTTERDAM in SUMMER – Biking, museums, paddleboarding, swimming [Ep. 44]

Описание: This city really comes to life in summer. While winter is grey and wet, once summer hits properly the trees and reeds along the banks of all the rivers burst into life. Birds migrate back from Africa, everyone gets in their boats on the river, and you can feel the heart of the city pumping faster. Rotterdam in summer is beautiful.

After a massive couple of months on the road all around Europe, we decided to spend six weeks in Rotterdam just enjoying it. No pressure, no long drives, just enjoying the area that we’re in.

We’re so lucky to be staying right on the River Rotte. We can just walk over the road to go boating, stand-up paddle boarding and swimming. Or we can take the bike and go along the river or to one of the many lakes or parks in the area.

We visited Kralingse Plas many times, as well as going into Rotterdam centre. There were lots of things to do in the centre including the outdoor Maritime Museum and Harbour, Dutch Marines museum, Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen which is an art museum, Delfshaven which is an old harbour that didn’t get destroyed in the bombing, and lots of other areas.

There were a few birthdays on this month so we celebrated them. We were lucky enough to do a boat tour of Rotterdam on a Chris-Craft. The best way to see Rotterdam is by boat.

We also did a day trip up to Amsterdam to visit the van Gogh museum.

The Hillegersberg jazz festival was on for a weekend, and a couple of us did the Rotterdam half marathon. My parents and sister also arrived from NZ. They’re staying in Europe for a few months.
