Abstract: I will describe and demonstrate added-variable plots, component+residual plots, and various extensions, as implemented in the car and effects packages for the R statistical computing environment. Added-variable plots are useful for identifying unusual and influential cases in regression models, while component+residual plots are useful for detecting nonlinearity, in the broad sense of lack of fit from the functional form of a regression model. Most of this material is joint work with Sanford Weisberg.
