Over 500 high-school students and their teachers from 21 different classrooms across Europe gathered in the hemicycle in Parlement Européen - Strasbourg on 9 February to put themselves in the shoes of an MEP and, thus, try to better understand the role of this EU institution and its relevance in their daily life.
They had the opportunity to ask their questions directly to the German MEP Prof. Dr. Klaus Buchner. Those ranged from how to improve green energy efficiency to the role of the EU in dealing with the migration flows from Northern Africa and Turkey.
In the afternoon, six rapporteurs presented the proposals of their respective working groups on EU issues. The rapporteur on Sustainable Development and Renewable Energy suggested four types of action, respectively in the fields of education and awareness-raising, public transport and electric cars incentives, taxes and subsidies, and innovation, research and development.
