Come with me on an adventure through the woods chasing this almost 100 year old railway!
This railroad is located in the Susquehanna State park of Maryland(Grist Mill Location). The tracks over 90 years ago were used for only 2 years as a supply railroad for the construction of the dam. This railroad also carried workers from nearby Havre de Grace MD.
A good portion of the railroad has been converted into the Greenway Heritage trail which allows for biking, hiking , and horseback riding. The Greenway trail begins after the Deer Creek bridge from the nearby roadway. Prior to the Greenway trail, the trail is listed as not maintained. In the Summer months the rails are hidden by vegetation.
L. I. & S. Co. was the Lackawanna Steel Company of Scranton PA - Company was in business 1840 to 1922 - It is very possible the rail was manufactured in 1896!
