Katie Ledecky will be just the ninth U.S. swimmer to compete in four Olympics, after winning the 400-meter freestyle at the U.S. swimming trials.
More than 20,000 fans piled into Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium, usually where the Colts play football, to watch the swimming superstar.
Ledecky already has six individual gold medals, more than any female swimmer in Olympic history.
The 27-year-old is expected to compete in three others events at the trials, including the 200 and 1,500 meters.
Aaron Shackell won the Men’s 400 and his home state crowd loved it. The 19-year-old’s father Nicholas competed in the 1996 Olympics and his 17-year-old sister, Alex, who just committed to Cal, advanced to the final of the 100-meter butterfly.
Speaking of, Gretchen Walsh, a 21-year-old from the University of Virginia, set a world record in a 100-meter fly semi-final in Indy with a time of 55.18.
