Just outside the city centre of Tairawhiti sits Titirangi/Kaiti Hill, a 35 hectare reserve where locals can walk, run, have a picnic or gaze out over the city of Gisborne and its rivers. In the last seven years, the maunga has become the site of a restoration operation - Whāia Titirangi. With many hours of pest control, weeding and 130,000 natives planted, the reserve has been transformed.
Jordan Tibble (Ngāti Porou) has been a key player in the project’s success. In Episode 4 of Extra for Experts, she talks to Sam the Trap Man about what it means for rangitahi to have meaningful mahi learning about our ngahere and how to take care of it.
